The following is what Austin Veg News hoped to provide SXSW visitors this year. If you’re able, please visit these restaurants. They were likely depending on SXSW traffic for a boost in revenue.
Welcome to Austin! We’re glad you’re here or soon to arrive.
We know what it’s like to visit a new town and not sure where to find quality, vegan food, so we’ll help point you in the right direction.
As a SXSW attendee, this list will help you find your best options in three ways:
- By location
- By speed of service
- By locals’ choice
This list of vegan restaurants and food trucks is arranged by geographical location and ease of travel from the Austin Convention Center using Happy Cow. Note: we only searched ‘Vegan’ and ‘Vegetarian’ restaurants. To expand your search on Happy Cow, select ‘Veg-Options’.
Brush Square Park
According to Eater Austin in its article ‘All of the Free Food Around SXSW,’
“Several rotating food and drink vendors will set up shop at the park with free samples, from dairy-free ice cream, So Delicious, to Dutch stroopwafel snacks, Rip Van Wafels, to vegan milk and cold-brew company, Califia Farms, to charcuterie company, Creminelli Fine Meats, to local coffee shop chain, Austin Java.”
The park is across the street from the Austin Convention Center, and vendors will vary from day to day. You’ll need a SXSW badge to gain access.

Tips when you’re strapped for time
- Call ahead and ask about the waitlist. We love our vegan restaurants, so they’re busy often.
- Plan ahead and order delivery. Many of our restaurants and food trucks offer delivery through Favor, Grubhub, Postmates or Uber Eats.
By locals’ choice
We asked the Austin Vegans Facebook group which restaurants and food trucks were their top five favorites last year. Here are the results:
- Bouldin Creek Cafe
- Arlo’s Food Truck
- The Vegan Nom
- Counter Culture and Li’l Nonna’s tie
- The Beer Plant
- Rebel Cheese
- Mr. Natural
- Plow Burger and Sundaze tie
- Citizen Eatery
- Sweet Ritual
- Casa de Luz and Nissi Vegan tie
We hope this list will help you find the best vegan food our town has to offer. Again, welcome to Austin and have a great time at the conference!
